Pemikiran Intelektual dalam Dakwah Syeikh Sya’id Ramadhan Al-Bouthi

Abstract

This study discusses the intellectual thought in the da’wah of Sheikh Sa’id Ramadhan al-Bouthi, a prominent 20th-century scholar widely known for his moderate, rational, and spiritual approach in the Islamic world. The research aims to describe his biography, socio-political context, as well as his role and contribution to the development of Islamic da’wah, particularly in the region of al-Sham (Syria). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines al-Bouthi’s core ideas that integrate textual revelation (naqli) and rational reasoning (‘aqli), along with the application of wasathiyah (moderation) in confronting extremism and modern secularism. The results indicate that al-Bouthi’s da’wah is grounded in a balance between creed (aqidah) and law (sharia), knowledge and spirituality, as well as tradition and modernity. His thought emphasizes the importance of knowledge-based preaching, personal example, and humanitarian brotherhood (ukhuwah insaniyah). His intellectual legacy remains relevant in the contemporary era as a guiding framework for Muslims to preserve the purity of Islamic teachings and build a peaceful, rational, and just Islamic civilization
